Giving Philosophy
GENEROUS PEOPLE ARE INUNDATED
Those who are generous, with modest or much, can find themselves inundated with giving requests throughout the year by nonprofits they know. Generous individuals can land themselves on direct mail lists that will flood their mailboxes and their social media accounts with a myriad of asks for vital fundraising campaigns. During holidays it can be quite overwhelming.
And this phenomenon takes place just with the organizations that they are already connected with!
TOP REASONS WHY PEOPLE GIVE
- Some give because they want to help others.
- Some give because it’s their family or religious tradition.
- Some give because they want to make their community a better place.
But here’s the most interesting part: some give because someone they know asked them. In a study referenced in Psychology Today, 85% of respondents said the reason they gave was simply because someone they know asked them.
That’s good news!
CULTURAL TRENDS THAT SUBCONSCIOUSLY INFLUENCE US
→ F.O.M.O. = Fear of Missing Out
Social media giant Facebook, splashed into our lives in 2004, which led to a phenomenon 2006 called FOMO. It is defined as a fear that others might be having a rewarding experience from which you are absent.
Internet marketing fed into those emotions!
→ J.O.M.O. = Joy of Missing Out
Fast forward to 2012 and through to 2023, we have the invasion of J.O.M.O. occupying our behaviors. JOMO refers to the liberating and gratifying feeling you get when you break away from the (real or virtual) activities of your social group and relish in the contentment of doing what you actually want to do.
→ Marketers realized it’s tougher, post-pandemic to move and motivate people with this new mindset!
